"Sotiria Tyrologou"

Domestic folk culture of Thasos

On the 1st floor

The domestic folk culture of Thasos is closely connected with the culture of olive, the vine and the sea.

In an effort to save a part of this heritage, we created the wing of SOTIRIA TYROLOGOY (S.T.), with her creations, as they took place in the various phases of her life and were saved in her son’s house.

These are embroidery with crochet hooks, embroidery with needles, woven on a loom, various knits and clothes that she designed and sewed.

In addition, we created representations of the tools she used, for those of them that were not preserved, as well as various exhibits of her or other residents of the area which they were rescued.

Everything she (S.T.) created was taught to her by her mother, Maria Vlachogianni and her mother-in-law Georgia Tyrologoy, as was customary in those years. Every exhibit except a few are S.T.’s creations.
